A framework for predicting global silicate weathering and CO2 drawdown rates over geologic time-scales.
Global silicate weathering drives long-time-scale fluctuations in atmospheric CO(2). While tectonics, climate, and rock-type influence silicate weathering, it is unclear how these factors combine to drive global rates. Here, we explore whether local erosion rates, GCM-derived dust fluxes, temperature, and water balance can capture global variation in silicate weathering. Our spatially explicit ...

adaptive behavior" as do associative procedures, they say; in both cases "the propensity of the animal to adapt by rejecting a novel or distinctive fluid is revealed" (18, pp. 18-19). As to mechanisms of associative predisposition, speculation seems to me to be premature. It might be wiser to wait until we have evidence that there is such a thing-evidence which the literature of flavor aversion...
متن کاملThe Geologic Time Scale 2012
The sulfur isotopic composition of dissolved sulfate in seawater has varied through time. Distinct variations and relatively high rates of change characterize certain time intervals. This allows for dating and correlation of sediments using sulfur isotopes. The variation in sulfur isotopes and the potential stratigraphic resolution of this isotope system is discussed and graphically displayed.
متن کاملGeologic Time Scale 2012 publication
This report summarizes the international divisions and ages in the Geologic Time Scale, published in 2012 (GTS2012). Since 2004, when GTS2004 was detailed, major developments have taken place that directly bear and have considerable impact on the intricate science of geologic time scaling. Precam brian now has a detailed proposal for chronostratigraphic subdivision instead of an outdated and ab...
متن کاملSubduction fluxes through geologic time
Much of my research career has been spent working both on modern oceanic volcanic systems and at the same time looking at their Archaean counterparts. Many authors have attempted to make inferences on early Earth models based on modern processes which can be increasingly well constrained. In this short review I show how we are beginning to understand and quantify inputs to modern subduction sys...
